New Fountains Of Wayne!

Just got back from a night of pop perfection at Park West, where Fountains Of Wayne played an acoustic set with Jon Auer (The Posies, Big Star) opening. Incredible tunes played in a great venue by the two biggest wiseass New Yorkers in rock since Becker and Fagen. What more needs to be said?

As for Auer, I’ve been a Posies fan ever since Dear 23 came out back in 1990. I saw them a few times behind Amazing Disgrace in 97, but after that they never got back to DC. Then, a couple of weeks ago, they were at Taste Of Randolph Street playing Frosting On The Beater in its entirety, and now Jon Auer comes back for an encore.

And FoW also had some new songs, too! These were taken from a performance in January, so I guess they’re not really new, but I heard them for the first time tonight. But hearing them gave me the opportunity to once again quote Steve Simels, “Adam Schlesinger is a goddamn genius.”
