Robbie Fulks
I only had a few of his songs before moving here (Bloodshot’s Turning 5, the hysterical Fountains Of Wayne Hotline, and a cover of Johnny Cash’s Cry, Cry, Cry). But a few weeks ago, Matt mentioned him in a Twitter post and I realized that I should get more of his stuff. So I picked up a few of his albums last week and have been loving his old-school country music served up with a wicked sense of humor. Besides, it’s impossible to hate a country singer who’ll write a song about Nashville called Fuck This Town?
Cigarette State. As you can see, he’s also an incredible country picker.
The Scrapple Song
I Like Being Left Alone
I have nothing to say about this one, other than you have to give the guy credit for being willing to try anything.

He also has an incredible cover of Michael Jackson’s “billie jean” that must be heard to be believed. and supposedly, a forever-shelved fully-completed album of Michael Jackson covers, which I hope is true, and I desperately hope sees the light of day someday.
I found this live cover of Thriller. He comes in for the second verse:
