Game. Set. Match.

Powell endorses Obama. No matter how McCain tries to spin it, it’s a crushing blow to his campaign. True, he lost a lot of his stature when he lied to help Bush sell the war, but many swing voters, for whom partisanship is not an issue, still think of him as a true American military hero with significant foreign policy expertise. It will go a long way, and if the right-wing hacks turn it into a race issue, it will backfire even more.

And with so many swing states now leaning towards Obama, this race has entered the “dead girl or a live boy” stage.

I don’t know if I was in a fog, but that looked like the Powell I remembered from the early ’90’s. It was more effective and complete than the Washington Post endorsement, and as welcome as the Tribune’s. If only I can get Lara Logan to have a drink with me, all should be well.

  2. I hope you’re right Dave. But I’m still nervous that we’ll see magical “tightening of the polls” followed by some funny, I mean Diebold-aided, results.
