Tuesday Morning Links – Ricky Gervais Edition
Yesterday, something came up that made me think of the classic Training Day episode of The Office when David Brent ruins a day-long customer service training by breaking out his guitar. Having “Freelove Freeway” go through my head for the rest of the afternoon kept me in a good mood all afternoon. He really is the British Larry David in the way he can mine self-loathing for laughs. I’m no David Bowie fan, but this scene from Extras, where Andy meets the Haggard White Duke, is one of the funniest pieces of stunt-casting I’ve ever seen, and nearly makes me forget all the crap Bowie put out in the 1980s.
So, here’s today’s Tuesday Morning Links, dedicated to Ricky Gervais.
Buy the complete series’ of The Office and Extras on DVD at Amazon.
An interview with him from January 2007 (before the American premiere of the second season of Extras) at The Onion AV Club
Ricky has two new blogs. The first chronicles the making of his new movie, This Side Of Truth, and the other is dedicated to winding up podcast foil Karl Pilkington.
Speaking of This Side Of Truth, some extremely funny people have agreed to be in the movie, including a friend of Wings For Wheels.
Finally, here are a bunch of clips at YouTube.

This non-David-Bowie-fandom of yours is an ongoing trial to me.
An overrated charlatan whose influence has done more harm than good.
I still think David Brent ruined the seminar when he did the role-play, as the ‘customer’. Still laughing at that awful, awful line. You nailed the Bowie scene from Extras, though. Still, I’m glad that Bowie gave Stevie Ray Vaughan a solo.
Oh, yeah. That’s an amazing bit, too. A disgusting thing to say.
Is here where I say I think Springsteen is a poseur? Because that’s where our conversation usually goes after you insult my Bowie…
Right, and then I call you a Kiwi slut.
