When Episodes Collide

I did a double take on Thursday when my RSS aggregator gave me an article that referenced Bob Mould on, of all places places, Deadspin. In it, Big Daddy Drew describes a Bob Mould concert as one of the Passionate Pinnacles Of The Human Experience

At any point during the show, and sometimes for its entire duration, Bob will take his guitar and proceed to absolutely LOSE HIS SHIT. His body starts to sway and twitch. His eyes shut. His brain, his voice, his hands: They all surrender completely to the flow of the music. Whatever concern Bob has for his past or future, and whatever sort of awareness he has of the audience or himself – at that moment, it’s all gone. He has completely given in to the present, to playing that guitar, to screaming his heart out, and to rocking your balls off. He is fucking INTO IT.

Then, something even cooler happens. Because Bob (and, by extension, Canty and the rest of the band) is totally into that moment, YOU, as an audience member, become caught up in it as well. When I see Bob play, I’m not thinking about the crack in my windshield I need to get fixed. I’m not worrying about my car getting stolen on U. St. (which is a good bet). All that shit goes out the window. I’m bouncing. I’m singing. I’m nodding my head like the idiot white person I am. Shit, I probably couldn’t even tell you my own name at that point. The use of my memories are abandoned in favor of the living creation of them. I am fucking THERE, man.

I only wish I could have expressed why Bob Mould is so awesome as well as Big Daddy Drew on yesterday’s podcast. Still, I couldn’t help notice the collision of recent WFW topics.
