Tuesday Morning Links – Johnny Cash Edition

This morning I’ll be speaking with John Carter Cash about the excellent two-DVD set of his father’s TV show that was recently released. Like my interview with Jordan Zevon, it’s going to take all my strength to say something other than, “Man, your Dad was so freakin’ cool!” So look for the episode on Friday or Saturday (with DC United playing on Thursday night, I might not have it ready), and until then, here’s today’s TML, dedicated to the Man In Black.

John Carter Cash didn’t take offense to a band calling themselves the Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash. In fact, he produced their Mile Markers CD.

At Blogcritics, Glen Boyd reviews the DVD and describes the thrill of meeting him and hearing the words “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash” meant just for him.

The Meridian Star (MS) has a piece about next week’s Johnny Cash Flower Pickin’ Festival in Starkville, MS, where Cash was arrested for breaking curfew late one night in 1965 when he was picking flowers, the inspiration for “Starkville City Jail.”

Re-Upped reviews a recently re-issued lost classic, 1979’s Silver.

Next month, Shout! Factory is releasing DVDs of Johnny Cash Christmas Specials from 1976 and 1977. Read about them at Cybergrass.

Finally, in the Guardian, novelist Louisa Young recalls interviewing him in the mid-90s and winding up with a private concert.

EDIT: I just heard from my contact, and unfortunately, something came up and Mr. Cash has to reschedule.  Look for a different, but still thoroughly entertaining, show this Friday.
