Episode 32: Rediscoveries – The Late 90s
OK, let me do a pre-emptive apology for the transitions on this one. Usually they’re much better than these, but because I had a precedent of chronology on the first Rediscoveries show, I stuck with it when I wrote this script. I knew it would be sonically all over the place, but I didn’t think they would also all be harmonically incompatible. Sue me, sue me, what can you do me, to quote Nathan Detroit.

Isn’t it bizarre the way Fastball was relatively popular, with good songs that got on the radio and people genuinely liked, and then they pretty much disappeared into the ether? You don’t even hear the popular songs anywhere anymore.
I think it was because they were too ubiquitous that summer. A year later it was all faux-Latin music and nobody cared about melodies anymore, which is too bad because You’re An Ocean is every bit as good as The Way.
