Little Boots

One of the podcasts I subscribe to is The Interface at Spinner.com, which gives a 20-minute performance of an up-and-coming band every week, with high-quality audio and video. If I don’t know the act, I’ll usually listen while preparing dinner. This way, if I can’t stand it, at least I’m doing something productive and listen to it all the way through unless it really sucks.

So last week, they sent me a video of Little Boots, an English electro-pop singer whose real name, according to her Wikipedia entry, is Victoria Christina Hesketh. I lose interest in most electro-pop because I get tired of digging through layers of distorted bleeps to find the essence of the song. It’s out of my comfort zone. But I’ll always give it a shot, so I put it on and went into the kitchen as usual. This was what I heard.

So what say you, my friends. Are these really good songs or am I only being blinded by Hesketh’s adorableness?

Since neither of those showed her keyboard skills, here’s a cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill. Unfortunately, her phone goes off towards the end, but I think it’s pretty good.

+1 for using Fibonacci in the lyrics. The eye makeup scares me a little bit. The music is okay, but when I’m in the mood for this type of sound I’ll stick with Alison Moyet.
