Brazil Waxes Chicago

My apologies to all of you who found this post looking for something else. Sometimes wordplay is just impossible to resist, even at the expense of my site’s spam blockers.

Anyway, if you’re still reading this after realizing this isn’t what you thought it was, I was down at Daley Plaza this morning to see if Chicago would get the 2016 Summer Games. I figured it would go to Rio, as it did, but I can’t say that any of us expected Chicago to be eliminated in the first round. This was how it sounded to those of us who were there went it all went pear-shaped.

Before the announcement was made, there was a band consisting of some local studio rats playing classic rock songs. I had to take some video of this one for Jason.

I think that video shows why Chicago lost. All of those stupid Cubs signs with “W” on one side and “It’s Gonna Happen” on the other meant that losing was as inevitable as mid-October baseball without the Cubs.

But congratulations to Rio, whom I’m sure will have no construction problems or infrastructure issues whatsoever in putting on the games.

thanks for this. am in Grinnell (Ia) for reunion planning meetings and was wondering what the energy was like. I’ve got mixed emotions…but definitely sad for all the possibilities of what it could have been like.

Great Post! Too bad, though. Now we’ll have settle for beach volleyball at Ipanema and football at the Maracana. The kayaking, especially, would have been awesome in Chicago…

What’s worse — the announcement itself, or the guy who looks like a fat Rob Thomas trying to do his best McD impersonation?

    Thanks for thinking of me!
