My Favorite View In Chicago
When I came here for a soccer game in 2005, it was a beautiful early-August day. Low 80s, low humidity, little wind, practically no clouds. A perfect afternoon for walking around and exploring the city. We took a water taxi from Navy Pier down to the Museum Campus on the way down to Soldier Field. The grounds of the Field Museum offered spectacular views of the city. Here are the pictures I took that day.
I had a 10 x 8 of that first picture hanging in my cubicle of my old job for the last year and a half that I worked there.

The best thing about being someplace scenic is how you can go 10 or 50 or 100 yards in any direction, see the exact same things, but with a view that makes it even more beautiful. As I wrote a few months ago, I ride my bicycle along the Lakefront Path about three or four days a week. When I blogged that, I don’t think I had yet gone all the way down to the Museum Campus and back. But now that 20 miles is now a minimum ride for me (my record is 37 miles), I’m almost always down there. Anyway, I don’t wind up on the grounds of the Field Museum, but I ride just below it, and the view from that spot when riding north is absolutely stunning.
Yesterday was another day like the one I had in 2005, and, with the possibility of more of them growing smaller as we head into the fall, I grabbed my camera and made my way down to that spot. As much as I love this picture, I still don’t think it does it justice.

Great shots Dave! My view from an airplane circling Lake Michigan three times before landing on Saturday won’t be 1/20 of as good. Of course the second I land it’s sprint over to the other terminal to catch the connecting flight to Denver. Glad to hear you’re taking the bike out all the time too. I don’t use mine anywhere near as much as I would like.
Beautiful – hope to get back soon. Also just saw the NYT piece on the water taxis, after the fact:

Just beautiful pics Dave! Every time I’m in Chicago or just passing through, I’m in awe of the beautiful scenery.
There’s only one other big city skyline that touches me like this and you know what that is! Great shots!
