A New Feature
Sometimes you read a review of a new band and you say, “I haven’t heard of this band, but I have to check this out.” There’s nothing better than that. You feel like you’re on the verge of a great discovery. You’re gonna be the one to tell everybody about this great band, and all your friends will go “Wow. He’s really in tune with what’s out there.” Like I remember when I first heard The Hold Steady, I got so excited that I sent an e-mail about them to a bunch of friends. Then, a few hours later, I felt like a poser when my friend Rob replies with, “Oh, yeah. I’ve been listening to them since Almost Killed Me.”
But still, discovering a great new band is what it’s all about.
This feature, on the other hand, is the exact opposite of that. This is about how far I can get into a review of a CD before saying, “I got no use for this shit.” So, dear WFW readers, I present to you…
Album Reviews I Didn’t Finish Reading
Our first one comes from Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune.
Album review: YACHT’s ‘See Mystery Lights’
Rating: 3.5 stars (out of 4)
YACHT — an acronym for Young Americans Challenging High Technology — is the brain child of multimedia artist and remixer…
Couldn’t even make it past the first sentence.

The irony is that the YACHT song I’ve heard is something that might be up your alley – breezy, midtempo summer pop, a bit like the Tom Tom Club.
