Some Jayhawks Videos
I’ve been on a bit of an early Jayhawks kick over the past couple of days. Hearing Jeff Tweedy sing Pecan Pie the other day reminded me that I got into Wilco and Uncle Tupelo through Tweedy’s involvement in Golden Smog, which I think was before the release of A.M. And I got into Golden Smog because it also had Louris and Dan Murphy of Soul Asylum.
Anyway, I hadn’t really listened to The Jayhawks that much since Tim and Michele gave them a smackdown on Episode 47 nearly 18 months ago. But for all their protestations about Gary Louris’ dorky glasses and frequent unannounced guest appearances at concerts throughout the Twin Cities, they still made a couple of the best albums of the early-90s, and Rainy Day Music was very good, too.
Remember the old Jon Stewart Show on MTV in the 90s and how you thought he sucked and would never amount to anything? Yeah, I don’t admit to that, either. But hey, he did have The Jayhawks on to perform Blue.
Here’s I’d Run Away, one one of my favorite earworms, cut to clips of Woody Allen’s Manhattan. I’m not sure if it fits the music, but it’s still got some beautiful shots of NYC.
Earlier tonight I was playing and singing along with Tomorrow The Green Grass and I came to the conclusion that my ideal profession is probably to play Mark Olson in a Jayhawks tribute band. We’ve got about the same five-note range.
