Newport

Last weekend was the 50th anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival. Anybody reading this site should already know why this is significant, so I’m not going to repeat it. But NPR was there and their coverage was complete. Go to their special page for the festival which will take you to full, archived performances of generations of folk and folk-based musicians who played over the weekend, including WFW faves Neko Case, Mavis Staples, Josh Ritter, Billy Bragg, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez (who became a star at the very first festival in 1959).

And not even being 90 could stop Pete Seeger from doing two – TWO – sets, leading singalongs with his grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger on Saturday and Sunday. His spirit is as indomitable as ever.
